Sifjord, Andfjorden and the areas further out are from ancient time known for its excellent fishing. It is the same excellent fishing today, and the fishing spots are close to Senja Havfiskesenter in Medby.

Outside the fjord Medbyfjorden are the islands Örja and Holmenvær, around these islands are large shallow sandy bottom, well worth exploring. Outside these islands is the mighty Andfjorden with its large deep. For those who want to go on longer trips, there are interesting areas around Storklakken and Steinvær.

Halibut are often the most popular fish to catch and there are much halibut in the area around  Andfjorden. The biggest halibut in recent times, in 2011, was 245 kg and 255 cm. The catches of halibut have increased steadily in recent years and the area stands today as one of the best halibut areas in Norway.

Around Örja are as mentioned earlier many shallow sandy areas and we can recommend that you try the area around Tørbåen for halibut. Other good areas for halibut are around Mefjordingen and Flesa, located closer Havfiskesenteret.

Halibut and huge cod are common in the area Norddjupskallen further out to sea. In good weather it may be well worth making the trip. The trip is only about 9 km and with the new boats it takes around 30 minutes.

It is plenty of mackerel and pollock in the whole area.

In Sifjord redfish are caught in depths down to 300m, also in the deep water around Mefjordingen. It is common with redfish at 50 to 60 cm in the depths in Sifjord.

These are some of the fishing areas around this part of Senja. Try other sites and find your own favorite area.
