Kajakk, Polarcirkelen Fiskecamp

Flott område for kajakk med mange ruter og velge mellom, og fantastiske fjell som skaper ei flott ramme rundt turen. Dere kan padle inn til Svartisen eller ganske enkelt rundt øyene utenfro Polarsirkelen Fiskecamp.

Driving into the area I was awestruck by the amazing landscape, with mountains rising up from the fjords and snowy peaks all around me. Svartisen is Norway′s second largest glacier, covering a massive area, and accessible only by boat. A terrific way to see this glacier is to kayak from Polarsirkelen Fiskecamp, about 2-3 hours, as it's a beautiful trip into Holandsfjorden. When you reach the dock at Engøyra, you can rent a bike to cycle over to the visitor's centre, and along the lake to the glacier. The visitor's centre is beautiful with great food, and you can have snacks and coffee while you overlook the lake and glacier- there aren't too many dinner views like that! Through Polarsirkelen you can also arrange to hire a guide to go walking on the glacier, perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Another terrific route by kayak is to go across Bjærangfjorden to the little island of Råholmen, and then under the bridge and around Storøya and Grønøya, through Åmnessundet and under another bridge, and back to Forøya. This is a great paddle for a half day or day, depending how often you want to stop. You are guaranteed to see sea eagles and harbor porpoise (called nisse here in Norway) and there are some nice beaches to visit. There are also Viking sites marked on the map, your hosts will be able to share information with you about these.
